Checking Your Internet Connection? M-Lab is the Solution
Do you want to check your internet connection? Yup, believe to M-Lab or Measurement Lab. This platform is developed by Google, PlanetLab Consortium, and New America Foundation’s Open Technology Institute.
As we know, checking our internet connection is so essential because many ISP blocks P2P network and decrease bandwidth. Therefore, the customers should prove whether the ISP consciously decreases bandwidth we receive or not.
Google knows this condition. Consequently, in 2009, it provides 36 servers in America and Europe to do the analysis of broad band for detecting whether the ISP manipulates data or not. In the same time, this company also provides some tools to make us checking our broad band connection.
If you want to check your internet connection, there are three tools in the Measurement Lab you can use:
- To check you internet connection speed, you may use the Network Diagnostic Tool
- Glasnost enables to check whether the filters the BitTorrent traffic or not
- Network Path and Application Diagnosis to check problems occur in the broad band network.
There are also two coming applications in the M Lab, such as NANO and DiffProbe. The NANO is able to check whether the ISP gives different priority to certain users and applications. Meanwhile, the DiffProbe enables to check if the ISP gives higher priority to certain traffic.
