Pionen: The Most Advanced Data Center in the World
The underground of data center consists of a glass house, waterfall, Germany antisubmarine engine, artificial sunlight and can survive from the hydrogen bomb attacks. It was built by one of the largest ISP Sweden, which is located in a nuclear bunker built under the Stockholm, inseparable from the outside world by the door. Below there are some interesting facts and photos that showed the this data center:
- At the beginning, it was a nuclear bunker used in the cold war. This bunker was given a code name with Pionen White Mountains.
- It is located 30 meters below the granite layer , under the Stockholm. Pionen has 1,110 square meters width.
- Pionen totally revamped into current data center in the years 2007-2008. When it was built, the constructors must release more than 4,000 cubic meters stones to create space.
- Pionen was designed to be able to survive from the hydrogen bomb attacks.
- Pionen contains the NOC to control five of the data center, which is owned by Bahnhof, one of the largest ISP in Sweden
- Internet access with with three layers of redundancy. The network is made of fiber optics through three different channels under the mountain. Pionen is one of the places with the best internet connection in North Europe.
- Pionen working environment equipped with a glass house, waterfall. The aquarium water is salty. The artificial sunlight maintains the comfort of employees.
