Apple Recruited IBM’s Top Chip Designer
One of chip designers of IBM has agreed to cooperated with Apple as an senior executive. However, he should fight to resign from his former company.
Before coooperating with Apple, Mark Papermaster is vice president of IBM in the microprocessor technology development . He planned to work with Apple in the early of November as a senior executive. With this position, he will be near with Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple. IBM predicts that this recruitment is a way of Apple to expand its position in the chip and server market. IBM prosecuted Papermaster to avoid him for working to Apple and leaking to selling secrets related to server and chip to IBM.
Papermaster is a developer of some designs of chip development in IBM. The products were used by Apple before it used Intel processor in 2005. IBM called Papermaster as a “IBM top expert in architechture and technology for Power”.
Apple’s representative did not want to consider Apple’s accustion or give a confirmation related to the postponement of Papermaster’s joining to Apple. IBM stated that recruiting Papermaster by Apple is a violation of a word of honor with IBM by working with IBM’s competitor. IBM will continue this case to the court.
